You are carrying more than you should be. The tension in your neck and shoulders has stopped being something you notice; it is just how you are now.
Your sleep is patchy. You feel run-down in a way that a bath or an early night does not fix.
Swedish massage is where most women start, and with good reason. The work is full-body and flowing: long, rhythmic strokes along the muscle, kneading where the tissue is knotted, steady pressure where the muscle holds tight and will not let go.
It does not skim the surface. It reaches the muscle and stays there until the muscle releases.
“I now have had two full body massages from this lady, made me feel alive and ten stone lighter from stress. I would absolutely recommend.”
What is Swedish massage?
Swedish massage is a full-body treatment that uses long gliding strokes, kneading, and circular movements on the muscles, from the surface down to the deeper layers. It is the most studied form of massage for relaxation and the stress response: the slower, rhythmic work relaxes the nervous system, brings cortisol down, and lets muscle tissue that has been held contracted for hours or weeks finally stop guarding.
It is not the same as a back-rub, and it is not the feather-light stroking you may have had at a salon. The pressure is agreed with you in the consultation before the work starts: firm enough to reach the muscle, adjusted as we go.
The goal is not to make you feel cared for for an hour. It is to leave the couch with your body working differently than when you arrived.
Swedish, deep tissue, or hot stone?
Swedish is the right choice if you are generally exhausted and run-down, want full-body work, and the tension is spread across the body rather than concentrated in one place.
For years of deep chronic tension that previous massages have never reached, deep tissue works more slowly and specifically through the deeper muscle layers. For muscles that need heat to open before the hands begin, hot stone adds that layer.
All three are 60 minutes from £60. Not sure which fits? The consultation at the start of your first visit sorts it before the work starts.
What to expect in your session
New women fill in a short form before their first appointment. Then we talk through what is tight, what is sore, and what you want from the hour.
I ask about pressure, not as a formality, but because the difference between "firm enough to do something" and "firm enough to bruise" is a conversation, not a guess.
You undress to your comfort level while I step outside, then settle on the couch under towels. I knock before coming back in. You are covered throughout except the area being worked on.
If the pressure needs adjusting, you want to move, or you want to stop: say so. Telling me as we go is part of how the session works, not an interruption to it.
Most women notice the difference on the couch. Some fall asleep. The common response afterwards is some version of "I feel like a new person."
Pressure calibrated with you, not done to you
The chain-spa Swedish and the Essential Massage Swedish share a name. The experience is not the same.
There is no queue of back-to-back appointments here. The studio is a private log cabin, one table, one therapist, the same every visit. I know your tight spots from session two onwards. You do not re-explain.
The pressure conversation happens before the work starts and continues throughout. Some women want firm work throughout. Some want lighter strokes on the back and deeper work on the legs. Some change their mind halfway. All of that is normal and fine.
